Why Choose Us?

A message from Helen Adams, Headteacher

The early education and childcare choices available for parents can be bewildering and it can be difficult to make a choice between Nursery settings for your child. My advice to parents is always to get a feel for a place and look at how happy and engaged the children are. Parents know their children best and will know what feels right for their child.

Here are some reasons why you might choose us. We are one of only two maintained schools specialising in early years’ education in Cornwall. Because we are a school (rather than a business) our sessions are run by qualified teachers (all of whom have taught throughout the primary range). This means we know what your child will be doing in primary school and how we can help them to achieve.

Our environment is second to none. Our learning environments are spacious, well-resourced and well organised. Outside we have a wonderful sand garden and woodland area offering children an amazing space to explore, manage risks, cooperate and learn.

Our curriculum is diverse and tailored to children’s needs. We do all the usual things that you would expect to see in the Early Years Foundation Stage. However we are constantly striving to be the very best we can be. We are the only school in Cornwall to have achieved the ICAN enhanced level for speech and language development. This means that we have the expertise to support all children to develop the speech, language and communication skills they need to thrive. Two fully qualified forest school leaders run a full programme for all children throughout the year enabling children to explore and develop skills in the outdoor environment. Underpinning all we do is a sound understanding of education and child development – we know what we are doing and why and don’t just do as we are told!

The result of all this is that our children do exceptionally well. We have excellent relationships with our primary schools and we share our achievement data. We know from this that children from Truro Nursery School do better on average at the end of Reception than their peers who haven’t come to us.

Come and see for yourself. You will get a feel for what we believe in and what we want for all our children. We usually find that when children visit they don’t want to leave!

We look forward to welcoming you.
